In 2008, according to the American newspaper “NEW YORK TIMES” Tunisia was classed 3rd most beautiful touristic destination in the world. Among 53 countries, Tunisia is just behind Lisboa (Portugal) and Laos (South East Asia) then comes Maurice Isle, Miami Beach and South Beach. In 2008, Tunisian tourism achieved an increase of 3.7 % as far as entries are concerned sine more than 7 million tourists visited Tunisia and spent 38 million nights. The income from the touristic sector achieved also an increase of more than 9 %.
For 2009, the ministry of Tunisian tourism installed watch units all over the world to follow the evolution of the demand especially the European market which brings more than 4 million tourists every year.
At the same time supplementary promotional actions were engaged in order to uphold the promotional effort granted by the state budget.
